I would say as a general rule though, most dealers are not going to be as easy going. Especially if your on the road, many miles from your hometown.

I also bought a 4 year extension on my new 05 SEEG from the folks in Orange, VA. Soon thereafter, my employer went bankrupt and closed it's doors, so I found myself in Texas, with my new J-O-B!

All the while, putting mad miles on the scoot in the new scenery I found along the way. I never even gave a thought to my warranty, as I racked up the miles on several long trips. I can only recall one stop I had to make at the shop in Pueblo, CO, when my gear shift lever SHAFT ( that's the shaft that goes INTO the tranny which is grooved, or at least is SUPPOSED to be grooved, upon which the shifter lever mounts onto) inexplicably became so smooth that the lever just flopped around on the shaft, and I couldn't shift gears. Strangest thing. But I paid very little, for some sort of o-ring, with the rest they said going on the factory warranty (which the bike was 2 years old at the time...Did I have a two year FACTORY warranty? Huhm)
But it all caught up with me in the end, when I could not get the fuel pop-up door to open a couple years later! I finally got fed up and took it to MY new hometown dealer in Rogers, AR.
We started this list of items that never seemed to end....including my starter, which just didnt seem to have the gumption to turn over the motor, even tho it was one of those HIGH-OUTPUT starters. (No auto compression release in that year) The horn had quit working, and there were several other electrical and minor mechanical issues, that added up quickly. And by this time, I had found the paperwork with my Extended warranty.
Bottom line......in 2005 I paid $795 for the extended time!
in 2008, the unpaid bill was $1600+, and I paid $30 for one small item not covered.
Yea, I suppose when my new '09 comes in, I am sure the warranty prices have changed quite a bit, but then so have parts and labor prices!
I will certainly consider it!!
Good luck and enjoy your new ride!
