If you are looking to stay cheap you can use your stock HK headset with a 1/2 helmet if buy the accessory triangular pouches that hold the speakers.  The mic can still clamp to the shell.  This allows you to make a quick conversion by removing the pouches from the straps.  I haven't done it yet because so far I simply can't think of a good enough reason to yet.  I did at least ask at the dealer about it.

I put the J&M half-helmet set on mine and my wife's helmets.

http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=HS-ICD284-HHU&PF=12

They also sell a 7 pin cord which plugs directly into your HD connector. Nice set up, microphone works much better than the HD one.  Call the headquarters in Tucson, they will tell you if there is a dealer in your area.  It is cheaper to go through a dealer than over the web.(no I don't know why).

Having said that, I like earbuds to block wind noise and protect my hearing. So I bought Microbuds and an Y adapter from Plugups and now can use the earbuds and have an intercom/CB mic.  Weird set up but it works for me. I also took the speakers out of the J & M setup so the pressure on my ears with the earbuds in would be reduced.

Good luck, those of us who like half-helmets are in the minority and have to find ways to make things work for us.javascript:void(0);

I've done 4 setups with the J&M. Plugs right in to the HD hookup. All you need are the inserts for the speakers, H-D makes them as do others. Different helmets accept the addition, well, differently. Be inventive. You can call, email, snail mail, J&M direct. If you find all you need on there website, I'd suggest going to Sierraelectronics.com and checking price.
If I'm going for minimal, then I let the sound come through the fairing speakers and use a handheld mic, Also from J&M.
