Throttle Body buzzing/hissing, when bike is OFF, FIXED
« on: February 10, 2009, 09:04:14 PM »

Need help on this one folks...
2007 SE Ultra, TMAT, D&D Fatcat, headgaskets replaced twice(not upgrade yet):
-At rest, key off, no power to it, this bike/Throttle Body is buzzing and hissing like a set of Fluorescent lites
on steroids.

-Finally narrowed it down to the TB by putting a screwdriver against it and
then my ear to the handle part and almost went def from the buzz.

-Battery is good and hasn't gone dead when left for days without the tender attached.
Not sure what the heck this is and not sure if I should worry.  Had the bike out
Sunday and ran normal and no problems at all.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Try shutting the motor off using the ignition switch instead of the thumb run/off thumb rocker switch. It changes the sequence that the ECM powers down.

Is it at anytime, or after you shut it off, how long does it last? Could it be leak down from a valve?  :nixweiss:

Will give that a try tonight, thanks for the suggestion.

It does it all the time, no break at all.  It has really got me confused.  I have a tender and even unplugged it and still buzzing away.  Very interesting!

Weird, you might try unplugging one sensor and injector at a time and see if it goes away. But with the ignition off, there should be no voltage to any of them, good luck.

You said it Craig, very weird!
Good idea on disconneting those things on it.  That should help
me eliminate  where it is coming from.
I am wondering if there is a bad ground somewhere, so will also be checking that
stuff too.

There have been problems with corrosion in the fuse panelx causing "crosstalk".  If there is corrosion in the panel you will need to turn on ignition, pull main fuse then turn off and pull all fuses.  You can then spray with contact cleaner and lubricant and replace fuses.  I had to use a brush to remove all the corrosion (I only had the bike around a month).  It appears soapy water collects there when washing and wreaks havoc.  It's definitely worth looking at.  May need to be addressed even if it isn't the cause of this problem.

I had the same problem with mine, sounded just as you described. I also have the TMAX. Since I figured this might be a problem with the TMAX, I called Zippers and talked to Randy. He had me install the latest version software or firmware, whatever it's called and then reload the newest map for the 110, and the noise has been gone since. This was in July of last year. Give it a try. If I remember correctly, I think he told me that this has happened to a few others. I think it has something to do with the idle air control?

Good idea and I just had to do the same thing to Abby's Nightster because the bike was draining the battery in the cold weather just sitting in the garage.  Once I went thru all the fuses, the bike and batt have been good ever since.  So it does make sense for me to do the same to Big Red because she too has seen lots of rain during here travels.
Thanks for the good suggestion!

Awesome, this is why I love this site, sorry you had the same issue, but thanks for plugging in this thread.
I just down-loaded the new software and will head out to the garage this afternoon to load it up into the TMAT and clean all the fuses!
Thanks again and I will write back on how I made out with it!

TMAT was the problem, just had to reload the map to the map and all was good.
I must have not done the re-sequence the last time I had the battery disconnected
and that made it go buzz.
All is well now and back in action.  Thanks for all the help!
