PC III for 2009's??
« on: November 11, 2008, 08:56:32 PM »

Anyone had any word on when the PowerCommander III's are coming out for the 2009 models?  I drilled out my CAT (Thanks, Jim Kerr!) but am waiting to install my Fullsac baffles and new air filter until I can get a new ECM.  Afraid to do the rest and make a lean running motor even leaner....

cheers!

I just had this conversation with the dealer today, and they asked me where I intended to put the power commander.  They told me that there isn't any room for it on the bike and that I needed to use something like the Supertuner, as it's downloaded and not left on the bike.  This is the same shop that swore by the Power Commander when I bought my '07 RK.  I'm wondering if they are full of it and just trying to steer me to the part they are most familiar with at the time.  I told him that I figured on putting it inside my right side cover, where I had my last one.  He told me that my ABS module was in there and there is no longer room for it.

I'm not at all familiar with SERT or PCIII, new to the whole tuner world. I do know that I will require one to adjust for the exhaust changes I've made. Am I correct to "assuming" that the SERT is a piece of hardware that does not get permanently attached to the bike. It is connected to the bike and a laptop is connected to the SERT. The information (maps) is downloaded from the laptop, thru the SERT and into the ECM, then the hardware (SERT) is removed from the bike.

The PCIII on the other hand is permanently attached to the bike. A laptop is then connected to the PCIII, information loaded to the ECM, laptop removed, them ride away. Is that close to what this is all about??

That's close enough and you have the general concept. Use the one your tuner is best with and recommends. And get the best tuner you can find. The tune is the key, much more than the device. I like having my ECM be able to run my motor, and not rely on an add on device, so I use a SERT now. But the PC works well too. Other choices as well. Pick the tuner, not the tuning device. Leave that to him. ;)

Is the 09 fitted out the same as the 08s?  ECM on top of the battery?  If so the Power Commander had 08 applications.  It's tight.  But it fits.

He told me there is no room for it under the seat now and that the ABS is behind the side cover.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the "floating seat" on the '09 or the power locks on the trunk and saddlebags, but I think I remember some mention of both of those items somewhere in our conversation (but I don't remember if that was part of the reason he gave me for not having enough room).

First of all I think it is great to have a dealer who asks the customer what his intentions are. That must be a first in the history of Harley dealers! Regarding to the "old" place for the PC, that is now occupied by the ABS module, but that has been changed for '08 bikes in the same way. The PC is quite small, I think it should still fit under the seat, unless (and I can not check on my bike, since I have not even a delivery date!) they have changed the seat configuration considerably. Anyone with actual experience around???
By the way: I think you need not be partial about the device, PC vs. SSERT, vs. whatever. I think it is more important to have a tuner, who is really comfortable with whatever device and I would follow his suggestions. Just my 2 cents.

Ride safely,
Louis

Rather than continue to guess (as much fun as it is) just took 45 seconds and called DynoJet.  Rep there said the 09s will get a new version of the Power Commander.  Said it will be marketed as the "Power Commander V" and they hope to release it "this month or next."

There you go. And now I'll have to wait for a '09 PC V for my imaginary '09 SEUC. Life is just not fair.
