Today, I ran into an old friend this AM that works in a local gun shop. I asked how is business and he replied as "booming" (wish I could say the same).
I took a ride down the street to take a look (never enough guns) and sure enough the place is over run with customers.
Since the election has been over they are swamped and I looked at several long guns and the question is....
Bushmaster, DPMS Panther, Rock River, S&W, Colt, ?

in a .223 or .556 or 6.8
Tell me that I cannot have it and I want one...
What should I look for?

223. I bought my step son a Rock River Arms. It seems to be a great gun. Bushmaster seems to be the more popular name though? Absolutely a last to shoot.

It's not the destination. It's the Journey.

I know it's not the name it once was, but I love Weatherby - high dollar, but great, especially bolt action.

I expect the 1950 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade I've got is appreciating nicely.

Brian, I will tell you a quick story that belongs to stupid things I have done.
I have a 1969 model 70 30.06 and always wanted a a pre 1963 gun. A acquaintance of mine found a beautiful model 70 vintage 1958. He delivered it to me to check out.
it was amazing but the rear sight had been removed and had only the scope mounts left.
I wanted to shoot the gun badly but since I did not own it I was not going to modify it.

I took it to the range anyway (without any sights) and was determined to shoot anyway.
I knew it would be a waste of time, but I set up a standard 10" round target 100 yards away.

I took 3 shots using only the rib base as a guide in place of a rear sight.

I not only hit the paper 3 times, but put a grouping of about 4" apart and 2" to the left of center. This was the magic gun. now here comes the really stupid part.

I did not buy the Gun, he only wanted $700.00 for it and I lost my mind for some reason and gave it back. Till this day it made no sense to me and I cannot explain.
