Big Sucker Stage I on FLHTCUSE 2006
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:42:29 PM »

OK - I decided I wanted to go with Big Sucker for my SEUC 06. I had read most that I could on the subject, most was negative until I read a FR8TRN post - can't find it now ::) - about AN18-505 & how it now fits the bike. Other ppl are also saying they have the Big sucker fitted. Ordered one from Eastern Performance who assured me it would fit my 103" SEUC. Arlen Ness, on the other hand, tell me it will NOT fit my bike!...................something strange going on here.... If anyone has had experiences with this issue, I would GREATLY appreciate your input & whether adaptations etc had to be made.

I have no idea if the P/N you mention will fit an 06 SEUC, but if EP says yes, and Ness says no, then I'd listen to Ness........and ask them which one does fit your application.  I had one on the Sportster and loved it.

Back in 2007 I had my dealer order the Stage 1 Big Sucker with a chrome backing plate for my 2006 FLHTCUSE. We got the part number off of the Arlen Ness website. (I don't remember the part number right now.) The Stage 1 is the one that allows you to keep the stock SE air cleaner cover on over the Ness filter. Stage 2 is thicker filter and you have to use another filter cover.
Here is a shot of the backing plate/filter/cover on my 2006.

I found the part number on an old thread.
If you want the chrome backplate on an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 setup as of 05-22-07 the website had a part number of 18-507 and the suggested price was $139.95.

Thanks for your input. I ordered P/N 18-505 which is the plain (not chrome) backplate for Stage I.

Now I really am confused!  ???

VaEagle - you obviously have it installed on your SEUC'06 - did your dealer have to adapt it?

Here is the reply from Arlen Ness:

None of the big suckers will fit your 103 due to the spread of the breather bolts being too wide.

They didn't tell me anything about having to modify the backing plate. They seemed to act like it was an easy install and they liked it a lot. I also had the S&S SPO slip-on mufflers installed at the same time. Due to increased air intake and outflow I needed a Harley Race download (Not The Race Tuner) which, I think the last year for this download is on 2006 bikes. It will keep the motor from running too lean.

I installed a Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 on my '06 CUSE two years ago with no problem.  Don't think I still have the model number but I'll check in the morning.

OK People - this is the fact. Arlen Ness Big Sucker with Aluminium backplate -  AN18-505 - fits my bike (FLHTCUSE 2006) perfectly. I believe that AN18-507 is the chrome backplate version, and #506, #508 give the stage II air cleaner(not abs sure...check it out!) -  same backplate used for both Stg I & STG II.
Am seriously annoyed at AN for saying that this would not work!!.........they are supposed to be a Pro outfit!!

Wonderful news that it fits your motor, but like you, I think it is a bit odd, that Ness doesn't even know their product line well enough to properly advertise fitment.

Congrats on getting this done.
