Adding CB to '09 SERG - anyone do this yet?
« on: November 15, 2008, 12:46:06 PM »

I want to add the CB to my '09 SERG when it comes in, so I am starting to put the pasrts list together.

Has anyone here done this mod yet???

The first problem I see is that the SERG's do not come with the thumb controls like the standard RG's do.  The standard RG's are set up like an Ultra on the right hand thunb controls.

I've got the CB module already.

Thanks!

I chose to go J&M, I didn't want to change out the console and everythig else. Just a thought, If you do buy a J&M have them crank up the modulation  to 100% It's a little teeak they can do for 45 bucks if I remember....Greg

Keep us posted on the details of your installation!  I would like to add a factory CB/intercom to my RG when it comes in, so maybe I can use your info to help me!!!

I'd like to keep the CB integrated into the radio, so keeping it all HD is important to me.  Going aftermarket is not something that I want.

Do the 09s have a CVO specific dash and/or dash emblem like most of the prior models have?  If so I personally would hate to lost that for this install.

I am hoping to find a different place to for the plug end other than on the dash.  I thought a good location might be somewhere between the side cover and the gas tank, mounted to a hand-made bracket.  I've never liked the way the Ultra's have the plug end in the dash, anyway.

I  Understand, buddy of mine did it on an '06 RG and if I remember correctly everything it pretty much a plug and play EXCEPThe changed his consloe and I think put an ultra one on... our beloved console, unless you want to buy another one and mod it for the  mic jack, If i were going to do it....I think that's what I'd shoot for or maybe pick up a stock console and figure out a way to duplicate the emblem some how....Greg

I did it to my 09 SERG, not for the faint at heart. CB module fits fine, Ultra wiring harness too short, get out the soldering gun, Ultra lower chrome switch housing, J&M antenna splitter and antenna. one antenna for both FM/CB. Ran everything internal. Outstanding job, works great. Now if i can just get one of my SEUC friends to get me the chrome trim piece for the comm plug in. Have talked with truckers 3 miles away.
The switch kit is # 77173-08, the housing is # 71613-96b

Thanks LarryB,
Sounds like you are going with the SEUC dash set up for the mic plug in?  What parts were involved with this dash change??

everything was included in the switch kit. The problem is the wiring harness that is in the switch kit is really for an ultra and the amount of travel needed for the RG is more, so cut, splice solder.
Also, the clutch activator switch is very sensitive. prone to braking. works opposite on the 08 & older models so its new for 09. might get one ordered ahead of time, Good idea for all you who are going to change to chrome switches.
