Exhaust question for 2006
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:07:21 PM »

I know this is my third question in just two days but I want to cover all bases before I purchase my new bike. I have heard that as of right now you cannot put aftermarket pipes on the 2006 touring models. You can only use the HD catalyst mufflers. I also heard that there is no tune available for the EFI bikes. Is this something to be concerned about. I don't want to go from a Fatboy with V&H straightshots to a touring bike that sounds like a sewing machine. Also for those interested, the complete Dyna line has O2 sensors in the headpipes.

This is a great question...I wanted to know the same.

I spoke with the service guy today about  the same thing but was more curious
about the 2yr. warrenty being void. I was asking about pipes and a PC or RaceTuner.
He said he hasnt recieved any maps on the 06 yet for pipes but did expect some. I dont
know if he is assuming? He said I had to speak with Someone next week who deals with warrenty issues about using non-Harley pipes and tuners. I look forward to the other posts.

yes there is a "tune" available for 06 bikes...both a download for air cleaner and slip ons and a new race tuner for the new ECM on the 06 bikes. As for the other question, cat converters have been in mufflers since 03..at least in Cal. yes we are breaking the law when we modify the exhaust...this has been discussed at length in other threads. Do a search and you will have a better understanding of the issue. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

My buddy just bought an 06 Dresser and the shop already has the stage one download.  He is also adding stage one breather kit and Vancy and Hines slip-ons. No different that any other year bike.

I just picked up my 06 SE Ultra and dealer had no clue that 06 touring bikes had catalytic converters. He just did a Street Glide with 211 cams and Rinehart duals and it is throwing an error code. Wonder if it has to do with changing out the exhaust. As for mine, I'll run with an error code as long as it doesn't hurt anythimg mechanically. I have to get rid of that Singer sewing machine exhaust note. Any suggestions on pipes for the Screamin Watermelon would be appreciated.

If your dealer does the pipes, download and air cleaner, it will not void the warranty. At least that is the way it works locally.
The error code on the 06 is not caused by the work you described, if done correctly. We have done several 06's and no codes.
Welcome to the site and ask as many questions as you like. Also use the search function to find info. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
