Need advice on Purchase of 08 SEUC
« on: November 28, 2008, 10:40:13 PM »

Hello all,

I am relatively new to the site but I have been reading all of the posts on the 110.  I have found a brand new 08 SEUC at a dealer and am (was) very interested in it.  Obviously, after reading everything on this site I am now quite hessitant.  I do know that it was one of the last 08's to be built and supposedly has the new gaskets, heads, etc., etc.  My question is would you guys do it or just wait and hope to find an 09?  Thanks in advance and I love this site.  One of the most informative I have ever found.

Thanks,

Brad

And who told you the bike "supposedly has the new gaskets, heads, etc., etc."
The salesman trying to reach his quota?
Documentation from Harley listing that vin number stating that work had been done?
The service manager hoping to help sales?

BTW
Welcome to the site.

I had the service manager run the VIN.  I don't know the right questions to ask in order to find out if he is telling the truth or just telling me whatever the salesman wants me to hear.

In my opinion the frame changes on the 09 are enough to not buy an 08 unless you are getting a HUGE discount off MSRP (at least 5-7K off) for the bike. As far as the updates to the motor the VIN would tell if it had the 0905 campain performed

No discount.  I'm really thinking I am going to pass and try my luck for an 09.  Thanks for the advice.

Wise move, especially if there is no discount. This is a year old bike. Not used, just a model year old. Bikes like this are good for one of two things: a discount to move off the showroom floor or an insurance company that has to fulfill a need for a replacement.

Go with the '09 at a MSRP dealer.

So may I ask the color and as far as the motor I have 5200 miles on mine and have no problems with the bike at all, also where is it your from? If I was too buy I wouldn't differently pay more the MSRP.
Good Luck in your bike search.

1.) You can run the VIN through the HD site, at hd.com -> Owners -> Service Check-Up. That should tell you if any campaign work needs to be done.
2.) Glendale HD had a white '08 on the floor as of a week ago.
3.) The difference between '08 and '09 is quite substantial, it is not only a "newer" engine version, but many other changes which should considerably increase the quality of the ride, and, much later, also the price for resale.
4.) In summary, the price should be in the range of an Ultra, between 8 to 10k below MSRP, in my mind.

Ride safely,

Given the choice between the 08 and 09, without a question take the 09.  I had many opportunities to buy the 08, after the 09's were unveiled.  I kept coming back to the new frame design, the wider rear tire, increased cargo capacity, and nicer paint schemes.  Given an adequate discount, I would have taken the 08, but I was offered $6000+ off and I still went for the 09.  This bike is more nimble than my Road King Classic was.

When it comes down to it though, I don't think you would be making a mistake with the 08 either.  They are both nice bikes.
