dragonfly lessons learned
« on: March 14, 2006, 07:31:07 PM »

first lesson learned tonight,
got the bars set and fairing in place went to remove the 3 screws to install the windshield and found out you cant really remove the outer fairing with the inner fairing installed.
the screws mate up with nuts their not captured into the inner fairing need to reach up and hold on, can only do this with the fairing off

i'm sure there will be more lessons learned before this project is done

Neal, can you epoxy the nuts on the backside of the fairing so it can be removed without having to remove the inner.Or get on of those seat type nuts with the horseshoe clip to hold it in place.Just brainstorming.

Naitram,

What was your ultimate solution for the bolts.  Did you use the epoxy to hold the nut in place?  I plan to have the outer fairing at the painter to paint a special pix above the headlight, but at the same time, be installing wires and mount the inner to the bike while I wait for the artist to be done.  I just wondered if you ultimately took inner back off and put it together off the bike then re-install as one?

Thanks a bunch [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Naitram,

One more question...  Did you get the fairing on with the tach installed.  Can't find what you told me in my PMs.  Sorry for asking again, thanks in advance.

i tried the epoxy trick but no luck, they didnt hold had to do assembly off the bike and put it on together, ive done some addition work inside the fairing by pulling it off and putting it back on just the upper studs, this allowed me to reach up inside and get at what i needed.

i removed my tach
