We have our first leak!!!!
« on: September 01, 2005, 02:33:59 PM »

...Yep.

Just rolled over 8000 miles, and got off the ride today to find oil blown all over the front of the air cleaner cover, and a good part of the right side of the bike.

It appears to be coming from the right front quarter of the front cylinder head, doesn't appear to be a head gasket. I'm told it might be a rocker box seal. A buddy up at a shop in NH says they do go...Something about oil pooling right there at the seal until it lets go, and sprays a bit.

So...I'm not blowing a chitload of oil...and the levels are good, so I'll be running it up north tomorrow to get it fixed.

Anyone else ever experience this?

I would say rocker box gaskets.  Had mine replaced last year.  Clean it all up really good and ride it again for a short distance.  This should pinpoint the leak, if it's at the rocker covers.  Pay special attention to the visible top rocker box bolts.  I had one work loose on the way to Maggie last April.  Not having a torque wrench on me, I was afraid to tighten it much more with a hand allen wrench, but when I got home, I found it had loosened considerably and tightening it back to torque spec did the trick.

hmmmm...perhaps I'll torque them down tonight and see what goes on....I don't see any blowing when riding. it's possible they just need torquing...I have toppers on the bolts, so I can't see them at all anyway.
