Oil in front air shock
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:39:51 AM »

I've got an '01....it has front and rear air shocks. I was checking the pressure yesterday and when I hooked up my pump....the clear line filled with oil from the shock. Is this a serious problem....or a minor issue? The front end seems to perform normally. The rear does not bleed oil.

What would cause this to happen?

Appreciate your feedback....

You have the last year of the front air ride, I have seen many do what you are seeing and have never had a problem with it. I would say you are good. pretty normal also the rears do it to.  Doc

Yep, little oil works into the tube when you attached it to the valve. No big thang.

Add another to the "they did it category."  My 2000 Road King was like that.  Oddly the 2000 Road Glide hasn't shown any in it's front line.  It actually holds air without leaking down too.  That's a real oddity for those.

I've had the same thought.  Every 00 or 01 I've had or known of always leaked down in the front every bit as quickly as the air shocks do in the rear.  This beast just stays up.  Saddlebag happens to be off now so went out and checked it again while I was thinking of it a moment ago.  Still ok.  Weird...

Now next time I ride it'll go psheeewww and the front end will go flat.

both frt an rear on mine holda air pressure just fine too...have never taken fittings apart to do fork oil change. I use a vacuum pump to do fork oil change, got a fitting from Dennis Kirk that goes in lower leg to suck oil up into it :orange: :orange:
