Channelock has a plier  GL12 it is made to work on oil filters and PVC pipe . They are inexpensive like $14.00 or so. If you use the screw driver system and it rips the filter apart you should be able to remove what is left with a punch and vise grips. The threaded part should be sticking out to grab.

Once you have reached the point of no return, where the oil is out and you cannot ride it, I use an air chisel.  peel the can part off.  Then walk the base off with the air chisel.  Did this many times on cars, boats, bike.  These were not filters that I ever installed.

I can understand why a K&N might be seized, the nut on the end of the filter plus the nut on the wrench can be tempting.  With the limited room to hand tighten the filter on the SEK, I tighten it with a strap wrench, you just have to get the strap down low towards the mount.
