One strong connecting rod.....
« on: February 16, 2009, 07:51:10 PM »

I was looking thru some old pictures over the weekend looking for something in particular - when I ran across this photo...  It is a 6" Carillo connecting rod out of one of my fathers race motors - a small block Chevrolet 750 horsepower motor.  The crankshaft broke, the rod literally sawed the block in half - twisted, but did not break.  Rod cap bolts were not damaged in any way either...  I thought some of you would get a kick out of seeing it....

Cool.  I had a cam break in a naturally aspirated big block drag car once.  Came apart at about mid track.  Only thing holding the newly created front and back halves of that motor together was the right head :drink: .

He must have shifted incorrectly since this is a well documented cause of most engine problems according to the MoCo. :huepfenlol2:

You're almost right!! :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:  It happened on a downshift - which is how most crankshafts break when road racing.... :nixweiss:
