new 110 motor problems
« on: April 06, 2009, 07:44:31 PM »

Long story short , Last year after returning from Sturgis I turned my2007 SERK in the dealership for my 20k service. When I got the bike back it had a horrible vibrations. 2 months later the motor company authorized a new motor which was put in in Jan. I recently completed the 500 mile break in period, the bike rode great. Now after 700 miles the bike has a terrible vibration. The dealership said it needs to be denied to make it run a little richer. I don,t think they have a clue. I,m really upset that this new 110 has vibrations. I think the motor is a lemonand HD really dozen,t know what to do. I would appreciate any help from me fellow 110 owners. I'm lost what I should do next.

Any chance you can describe the vibration ie:   its in the right footboard, the whole bike shakes, i feel when i am doing 2600 - 3400 rpm's slightly accellerating around a car etc?

Hi RedRocket,
I have have had similar problems.  However the engine has not been replaced.
It vibrates badly at tickover when hot, so much so that the handlebars jump about,
also vibrations through the footboards.
This does seem to disappear once travelling.

I had earlier problems, and as a result had the crank trued plugged and welded and a Timkins conversion.
However, the problems still persisted. :nixweiss:

My 2007 CVO RK is my first ever Harley, and I have been advised that such vibrations are to be expected.
I am now replacing the heads with R&R ones and also Axtell cylinders.

I have now ridden other Harleys - not CVOs and they are smooth compared to mine.

If this does not fix the problem, I do not know what to do next......

Best of luck......

My 07 SERK does the same thing.  At idle it about shakes the front wheel off the ground (never thought I'd say an Evo softail has a smooth idle, but compared to this mine does).  At 2950-3050 rpm there is a vibration through the floor boards.  When you let off the throttle at any rpm there is a vibration through the handlebars, floor boards and tank.

I think we are up against the usual pig-headedness of the MOCO regarding fixing their products and being squeezed on profit so they are even more reluctant to do anything for you.  Eventually you will either live with it until something lets go and you fix it yourself, or you can't and fix it yourself before then.  I wouldn't count on Harley to make things right.  They are fond of saying things are "normal", and this way of doing things is normal for them.

A friend of mine had a severe vibration on his 2003 Road King. It turned out that someone had installed his front motormount incorrectly. I am not familiar enough to know if your motor mounts are similar but it did cure the problem for him. So I would check all motor mounts. cahdbiker

If I remember correctly, someone posted before that Florida didn't have a lemon law for motorcycles so the easy solution is out.  However, that doesn't mean you can't retain a lawyer and file suit under various Federal statutes.  A vehicle that cannot be used due to repeated failures and defects doesn't pass the merchantability and fitness for use test.  It's a major pain in the rear to have to retain a lawyer and go through all the BS, but in the long run it may be the only way to get H-D off their ass.

It looks as though I will be getting a replacement bike. Will know more next Tues. due to the long weekend. The Area Rep is putting me in for a new bike, same as I have. Hope it works out for me, and does not take 3 months to get one. Will only have to pay for new tag and title.  Doc

I have an 06 RG.  I went to replace the motor mount and it was superceded with a newer design.  Once installed it put all the motor vibration into the front end.  Drove me nuts!!!  Did some research on v-twin.com and found a Buell part number for the original motor mount.  Put the original type back in and everything is back to normal.  No more vibration.  Called the MoCo and gave them my 2 cents worth about it.
