2001 SERG outer fairing.
« on: January 07, 2009, 11:55:20 AM »

This question is for you experts.  I just got my bike back from the dealer from the mishap when Nigel was here in august.  Here is the problem...The new fairing seems to push up on the inner fairing, causing the radio bezel to look misaligned.  Upon investigation, I found that there were taps on the top of the fairing pushing up on the inner fairing.  I do not remember these tabs before.  Now I know about the tabs on the side, but I do not think I had any on top.

Any info is appreciated.   Thanks.   Scot :nixweiss:

Scot, if you're describing what I think you're describing the shop screwed up.  I couldn't find a good picture to illustrate.  But take a look at the one below just stolen from an eBay listing.  Are you talking about the tabs that seem to be protruding from the fairing?

If so those align the inner to the outer.  And they go inside of the inner fairing (might also think of it as "under" the edge of the inner as you're assembling the two together).  If you can see any of those protrustions they did not get the two pieces approprately aligned as they put the outer fairing on.  If they pulled the screws together with those tabs misaligned I'd fully expect things not to look right.  I'd also worry that something might have at least gotten scuffed if not actually broken.

They installed it correctly, but, I do not remember my old fairing having the center tabs (at the windsheild) as well as the ones next to the top screw holes.  The ones on the side of the fairing are the same though.

When the outer fairing is not on, the radio bezel is flush with the hole.  I install the fairing and the whole set up pushues upward.  Maybe something else is misaligned?????   Thanks.        Scot

HA HA HA HA.  I wonder if the fairing mount needs to be adjusted, maybe?  I'll have to check it out.....

This is the first time out since total knee replacement,  might wait to do any adjustments.....weather here is awesome though.Time to ride.

Wish I could share some helpful advice and counsel but I got squat Scot.  Don't think mine could appropriately get all the tabs tucked where they should and still be out of align as you described.  So something is going on.  I just can't help with an idea for what it might be.  Sorry man.

2001 fairing shown here.

2 spikes on either side of center mounting windscreen mounting screw.
2 spikes on either side of middle (not end) mounting screws.

No spikes on end position mounting screws.

Does this help?
