How much have you used your SERT
« on: March 02, 2009, 08:36:30 PM »

How much have you used your SERT without a dyno.  Anyone messing with the settings?
I am a little nervous about making any changes.
Let's hear what you have done.

Get a copy of the MegaLogViewer software.  Phil there is an amazing programmer.  It is free to use for private use.  It is available from

http://www.efianalytics.com/MegaLogViewer/download/MegaLogViewer-Setup_v2.954.msi

Once installed we can help you get it set up to read Datamaster exported csv files.

Hope this helps

AW

I am not sure if this is for me with my limited computer abilities.  I would have no heartache opening a carb and putting in jets but the whole computer thing is my hold up.
The SERT has so much ability it seems it would be real easy to get it all screwed up.

I would like to learn more from those who have been there done that.

Thanks

I read the manual and made some changes.

Some based on things I picked up here and some that I just did.

Most of what I have "played" with is the decel enleanment table, the AFR table and the rev limiter.

Have you messed with the throttle or the closed loop bias.
I was told if you max out the voltage on the closed loop bias the AFR would go from 14:7 to 14:2 in closed loop.
I was also told to max out the throttle progression.
I am a lacking confidence in my ability or reliability of saving original settings to go back to if I don't like the changes.
Thanks any personal experience appreciated

I have an 05 - no o2 system.

With the SERT you start with a basic map (should be supplied with the software). Download that and go from there.

Typically the next step is a dyno.

In my area there doesn't seem to be any reliable SERT dyno people.

For me, I just asked some questions, looked at maps that others had posted and made a few changes.

Just save all your changes as new files, preferably with the date and a descriptive file name so you can go back to an older file.

Problem with a SERT is that you can't download the MAP you current in the ECM.

That sucks if you have the bike dyno'd and the tech does not give you a copy of the map.

Like I said, I did minor changes, basically turned off the decell and lowered the AFR across the board.

I am happy with the way my bike runs. After adding a new cam, 2-1 pipes etc I may consider looking for a tuner again, but we'll see.

As long as you save your original map you can always go back.

To save the file, open the one you want to use then without doing anything save it. The software will ask you for a name for the new file and at thatpoint type in a new name. This way you have on your PC 2 calibrations that have the same starting point. Once you've save the file with the new name that will be what you have open in the tuner. Change whatever you like and know that you still have the other copy there just in case. DONOT MAX out the throttle setting as your bike will not like it nor will you.

Thanks for the info...I did see the giant red flags in my mind about the throttle.  There has to be a good reason for HD setting it up the way they do.
I think I will go interview dyno tuners today.
This might be better left to the professionals...hopefully I find one.

You might be better off interviewing other riders first.

Guppytrash,

What version of the SERT do you have and what year bike are you installing it on?

2009 FLHTCUSE4
I have already downloaded the baseline map for A/C and exhaust.
Most likely going to let the dealer do the rest.
Thanks
