cat removal
« on: February 01, 2009, 07:52:45 PM »

who ever had the idea to cut the pipe and remove the cat and weld back together had a great idea, simple and effective. there is a good chance that with the coring bit method the cat that still remains could possibly rattle loose or break apart.

You may want to give Steve G. at Fullsac a call, here's a link:
I think he made a jig to do just that.

I'm confused,  when you cut the pipe are you making one cut, then cleaning,,,,,or two cuts and replacing with a new piece of pipe.........I looked under the bike and it looks like there is about a 16th play from the crossover to the trans,  if you cut through  the pipe and weld it back with the saw blade being 1/8" the cross over would hit the trans ............am I wrong

The band saw blade isn't 1/8".  And after he welds it back together, it bolts back up just fine.  Trust me on this... :D

I did mine yesterday, the Kerf of the blade is the amount you are concerned with. I made a 9 in reference point beyond the cat on both sides, when i lined it up to weld i used that 9in to reference back.
