Shutting down that thread, IMHO, was the best thing that could be done. Even though politics, not religion, is mentioned specifically as a taboo subject for the forum, I think everyone knows that the moderators are acting in the forums best interest in shutting down ANY threads that are creating a controversy amongst the members. For that wisdom, I applaud the moderators. Their position is not necessarily one to judge the merits of the topic at hand and take sides, but rather to keep this site a harmonious environment for all to feel comfortable with. Anyone that disagrees with locking that thread based on their own personal belief system is missing the point of locking it altogether. It is in the interest of the entire community to keep the peace. Do you ever remember your parents stopping you and your brother or sister from arguing about something and just saying "End of discussion"? Sometimes, it's just the best thing to do. I also feel like starting this new thread and continuing the discussion further here is another step in the wrong direction. Again, IMHO, the best way to question something of this nature is to PM the moderators, rather than side stepping what has been done by opening another thread. One more thing, I feel that it's very nice when someone sends out their prayers for "Riders Down", etc. and I don't think anyone will ever have a problem with that, but when entire discussions turn to the religious side, there are bound to be problems that parallel political discussions. I thank the moderators of this forum for having the foresight to not risk losing members over principal or personal beliefs.
Please note that I am not mentioning anything about the content of the thread, other than the fact that it has created controversy. That, in and of itself. is a very good reason to lock a thread. I know I am speaking out of place for the moderators of this site, but for those of you that are offended by the thread being locked, please read back through what I just stated above and realize that it is a good decision for the group as a whole, and not an attack on any person or persons.
