Hi-Beam question

I always ride with hi-beams during the day.  This morning, on the way to work I noticed that the HB indicator light was off and my HB didn't work at all.  Low beam is fine.  My question is:  If the bulb is bad, would the indicator goes off also or still lite?  I need to figure out if I have a bad bulb or the relay is the problem before tearing the head apart or go to dealer.

I would think if the hi beam bulb is bad, the hi beam indicator would still light up.  Hope someone can help better than that.  Let us know what it is.
