Chopped Tourpak Question
« on: July 10, 2009, 06:33:13 PM »

Ordered a Painted chopped tourpak when I got the bike, Took 45 days, when I went to install it the backrest would not bolt on, the holes were incorrectly drilled and the painter forgot to sand the top, paint had already cracked and was peeling. Dealer sent it back and promised to order a new one. Harley decided they wanted to see it before they would credit the dealer. 26 days later I went off on the dealer and at noon told them I wanted a shipping date or my money back @ 4PM. About 10 after 4 the lady @ Harley who would not return the dealers call mysteriouly called them back and said pack would ship friday (today). Paint problem was from contractor, that I understand, it just happens some times, did to me when I am in the body shop, but has anyone else had mounting problem with the backrest? Seems if one of us has a problem others have already experienced it and or have a cure.

Shouldn't have to drill in a $1200 part, before discount. Did you have to redrill yours?

I bought mine off ebay used. 350.00 was going to paint it to match my bike anyway. filled all the holes in prep and drilled all new ones as needed. my tp with all i got in it, cost me about 900.00, thats including the fancy shmancy hinges.

The mounting holes for the matching passenger chopped backrest lined up very well on the my chopped tour pak. You ARE adding the CHOPPED backrest right? Not one for the King T. P.?

good point, my TP backrest is for the chopped TP. fits the ultra king just fine. all the TP's tops are the same with just different holes.

Yes, backrest is for chopped t/p. It is the one that matches the seat. This is the 3rd chopped t/p I have bought over the years and the first one that didn't fit perfectly. Just wondered if anyone else was having a problem. The holes in the first t/p were so far off that the studs from the b/r would not insert into them.

Doc, I had no problem when I ordered mine, sounds like everything that could go wroung did with yours. As far as the holes, that back seat rest is monuted on rubber studs, the holes as you know have to be correct for it to fit,  I think I would take the back rest in and unpack the new chopped tour pak AT THE DEALERS in front of the dealer , inspect the paint & insure the holes for the pback rest are correct prior to walking out,  good luck,  Jack
