Battery removal
« on: March 23, 2009, 11:11:47 PM »

How do you disconnect the battery on the SERG without the alarm going off?  The only way I could do it was to disconnect the negative with the ignition turned on.  Looked in the owners and service manual and didn't find anything-HUH???? :nixweiss:

Remove saddlebag and left side cover. Have alarm fob near bike, Turn bike on, pull maxi fuse. Then remove battery negative first.

I didn't pull the fuse, I disconnected the neg terminal with the ignition switch on.  The spark wasn't too long but it sure was a pretty blue color LOL.  I'll try the fuse trick when i hook it back up.  Working on a stereo amp and speaker upgrade and changing the bars.  Shouldn't take too much longer, as long as my customers leave me alone-oh yeah, need them to pay for the parts and insurance. :)

Thanks.  Was that procedure in the manual?

I remember reading it in either my owner's manual or the service manual / CVO supplement.  I do just what Jim said, turn on the key and then pull the Maxi fuse.

The alarm is self powered so just removing the battery voltage does not silence the alarm.

One thing I had happen two weeks ago was a flat battery.  I keep forgetting that this bike with the ECM will drain the battery without keeping it peak charged.  I hadn't ridden the bike since New Years Day.  When I hooked up my tender, the alarm went off and I could not shut it down.  I had the fob on the handlebars, but that didn't help.  I had to remove the seat, left saddle bag and then the side cover.  I turned on the switch and then pulled the Maxi fuse and the alarm stopped.  After I had the battery charged and put back in the Maxi fuse, all was good again.

So now I think about keeping the battery tendered and I'm good to go.
