I have 19k on my SERK, I have had the front tire replaced at 9K from nasty cupping on my dollar, I put on another 3k and the cupping was worse than before. Luckily another HD dealer was sympathetic and replaced the tire for free. The next tire was replaced at 17K due to a nail and it was pretty badly cupped. My rear tires have been much worse, excessive wear and nails again. My driveway is dirt and is 1,800 feet long plus the previous owner was a contractor so I'm always finding nails, the costly way. I purchased one of those 3 foot long magnets on wheels that look like a push broom to go over the driveway to pick up the nails every month os so. Apparently the rain causes the nails to be accessable. Rear tire - first flat at 3K, next tire from wear at 9K, another nail at 12K, and another at 16K. Luckily I have the tire warrantee program but they called the service manager out of suspicion and he vouched for my driveway situation. In most cases when the tire was to be replaced I noticed the weights fell off. I suspect that it was not cleaned enough prior to installation. Right now I have 5 weights right at the wheel valve stem on the rear wheel. When do you just call it a defective tire? I mean how much weight are you allowed to put on to make it balanced. I'm heading out today to pick up 2 tires I purchased @ 25% off during bike week in Laconia. I also noticed a large scratch on the rim they put on during the last tire installation. I talked with the Dunlop rep at Laconia and he told me that the front tires are going to have the thread pattern reversed in hopes of reducing the cupping. I was hopefull when Hoist started a post last year looking for a better tire replacement. I will definitely look into the beads and continue to search for nails but the cupping and quick wear tell me there has to be a better tire out there for our needs. I check my tire pressure very often, with the amount of nails I keep finding I would hate to get on the throttle at one of our sharp corners and get in trouble because I was to lazy to check the pressure.
What are the negatives to using the beads?
Thanks
