My vote goes to Metzlers

I agree 100% :huepfenjump3: super balance of performance and mileage - keeping the air pressure on the high side of the recommended range has worked very well for me

I understand they don't make tires for the new 09 SERG yet. Is that still true. Had Metzlers on my 03 and loved them. Would consider them instead of Dunlaps based on the previous experience.

What year do you have??

I'm with the others on the ME880 Metzeler's at the proper higher tire pressure if on an 08 or older Eglide or Ultra.

If an 09, I believe the stock Dunlop's to be a good tire.

Have to agree with Boatman.  Went from Dunlops to Metzlers on the '04 RG and thought them much better (though they were 18") than the 16" stockers.  The 18" Dunlops on the SERG feel great so it may be a case of size.  The 18's are stiffer which I like.  Don't forget the Dunlops on the SERG are a whole new design (so they say).

Things to consider:

Depends on the bike, Where and How you ride, (understand the type riding you will mostly be doing). Radial or Bias ply? Loaded- w/Passenger- w/Passenger & luggage- or Solo

There are several brands out there offering different handing and wear characteristics.  If you are an agressive rider, and want handling on twisty roads, choose a tire like the Avon Venom, or Metzler 880. Metzler's are a harder compound and seem to last a little longer than the Avons, but don't seem to corner quite as nice in my opinion. The Avon rears tend to run a little warmer than the Metzlers too. Both are good tires in wet or dry conditions.

If you are a highway rider & tour mainly- loaded- I think the oem Dunlops work fine- (D402's HD tires are the OEM tire) they work very well, a rear will last 8-10k miles, they are smooth on the highway, and channel water well.

If you ride fully loaded most of the time- make sure you choose a tire with the proper load rating-
