Fuse blowing every few hundred miles FLHTCUSE4
« on: May 17, 2009, 01:27:15 PM »

Hi Chaps

The number 3 fuse (Accessory 15a) blew at about 1,100 miles and it's blown again at about 1,800.  It stops my driving lights, indicators and I think my rear light. My Autocom is wired into the same circuit as that stops as well.

It's odd that it takes time before it blows again.

I'm going to get it to the dealer, but I'm going on a small tour in a weeks time and want to point the dealer in the right direction - any of you chaps got any experience of the same problem.

Don't want to be riding in the Scottish Highlands and find I've got problems, maybe I'll just have to stock up on a few fuses.

Thanks in advance.

Jon

My '07 SEUC was doing this for awhile, but during the rebuild of my bike, we found chaffed wires under the rear fender that was causing the blown fuses.

Just a suggestion to look under there for any bare wires...

Jon,
Just like BayouBiker said, if you have the time, check for wires rubbing where they shouldn't be.
This too happened to me and I lost all instruments on my way to HD 105th Party in Wisconsin.
Ended up being and an orange wire in fairing chaffing up against metal fairing piece.
taped it up real good and off and running now 5k later no problems.
Hope you get it solved very soon,

Did you add the run-brake-run module? It installs under the seat to convert your turn signals to brake lights. If so, that may be the culprit. (don't ask how I know)

Well good dont bother with one...I had trouble with mine..took it off and all was well.

I did find several fuses in the block were not snug, I took the fuse out and tweaked a bit, bending the legs a tiny bit so that it fit tighter in the slot, loose ones can burn too...

This was a 07 serk.  Carry extras! Have a fun trip
