Route 2 west through MI, WI, MN, ND, MT Input Sought
« on: May 03, 2009, 08:17:50 AM »

Planning this year's trip out West from Ohio.  Thinking about Route 2 along northern US border, picking it up in the upper peninsula of Michigan and running with it into Duluth, MN and then west through ND and into Montana, ending at Glacier National Park.  Would appreciate thoughts from anyone who's ridden Route 2.  Or those that haven't.  I'm ready for some solitary road time.  Thanks.

Solitary you'll find for sure. Good friend of ours did it a couple of years ago two up on his E G Classic. Desolate for sure. He highly recommended it over the interstate. Top off whenever you can.

Never went that far west but did some of it.  Great country, great roads.  Hope you have time for side trips, lots to see and do.  But......

My wife and I traveled from Toronto to Victoria, BC a few years back and went over the top of Georgian Bay but under Lake Superior to pick up Route 2 which was suggested by a friend.

The road is amazing!  It goes all the way to the coast almost, although we took the suggestion of a local and went through Glacier National Park (Road to the Sun in the park is incredible) and then north into Alberta before continuing west to Victoria.

There are plenty of little towns with restaurants and gas stations along the route and is much more enjoyable than the big slab to the south.

Since then, every friend who has headed west we've advised to take Route 2 and none have been disappointed.

Enjoy and ride safe,
Grizzly

Two summers ago the wife and I did the U.P highway 2 in the car  >:( and it was beautiful!  It is a very soothing ride and would be great on a bike unless it is windy.  We went as far as Escanaba which was a nice town with a great historic area.  Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the feedback.  Sounds like a plan. As long as we're sharing trip signs, thought you'd like the one I took on my last trip from a rest stop in Wyoming.
