Starter removal
« on: April 28, 2009, 07:49:14 PM »

Since it is now granite paint season on these black starters, what tips can be given for removal and re-installing of these on the 09 SERG. I know there are some dowels that must be cared for.
hate to see someone short something out.

The hardest part is removing the starter Jackshaft and pinion gear which involves removing the primary cover.

07 and up there is no need to remove the primary cover.

Simplified steps......
Turn bike on with remote nearby
pull maxi-fuse
Disconnect negative battery cable at battery
Disconnect power lead from starter
Exhaust may have to be removed to get starter out (depending on year and exhaust)
Remove two starter bolts and exhaust bracket (depending on year)

remove starter

If I remember correctly, there is just 2 bolts holding the starter in place. With the right tools, it's a 5 minute job.
