Want to install Redshift 575 cams. Do it yourself or take to indy shop?

You will need access to a press to remove the cams from the cam plate. It really isn't a hard job. Are you changing the oil pump, or lifters? Are comfortable doing it yourself? Do you have the manual for your bike?

If you have all of the tools go for it. You will need to change the the inner cam bearings also. I hope you have the tool for that. If you run into problems someone on here will always help you out. Besides we love to see all of us spend our hard earned cash!

If you have the self-confidence in your mechanical skills and the tools, the 575-HS is considered by Zipper's to be a bolt-in installation for a decent mechanic.  If you decide you do not want to attempt it yourself and instead have a professional shop do it, you might want to consider having them do a little head work as well and install the 657-HS Cams.

The following is from the Zipper's Performance website:
575-HS:
    * Designed for use with stock, unmodified heads
    * Great bolt-in upgrade for stock 96" or 110" engines
    * Increases torque and horsepower across the board

657-HS:
    * Max torque grind for 2007-up larger displacement with heavy payload
    * Narrower timing for more low-end grunt
    * Excellent valve train dynamics for long life
    * Works well with most bagger exhaust

If you don't have the tools you can still save money by pulling everything out yourself and having a good independent shop press out the old and install the new. Then you finish it up yourself.

'07 has the drop-in cams.......no press needed.

IMO if there's no visible damage to the crank bushing or inner face next to oil pump, you should be good to go.

Mine was fine at a tad over 20k.

Doing it yourself will be a very rewarding experience!

As DCFIREMANN stated, definitely buy/rent/borrow the correct tools for r&r'ing the inner cam bearings.  Replace with Timken B-168!  Old bearing on the left, full compliment B-168 on the right:

Yes this is a must.

I didn't notice he had a 07 model. It should really be no problem if you take your time and pay attention to detail. IMHO I think the 575 will be your best option.
