Donate Life-Become an Organ/Tissue Donor
« on: April 01, 2009, 08:12:33 PM »

Today starts National Organ Donation Awareness Month accross the U.S..   July 1st, 2009 will be the 5 year anniversary of my sister Patty's passing unexpectedly due to a brain aneurism.  She was an organ donor.  So am I.
Here is a picture of my sister Patty with her 18 year old daughter and my 4 year old daughter on Father's Day before her passing.

Tim (on the left) received my sister's heart.  Several members met Tim at Maggie Valley 2007 or York 2008.  This picture is at Battlefield HD in Gettysburg.  You rarely meet the donor recipient other than by correspondence thru the donor agency, but we found each other thru motorcycles and have become great friends and see each other several times a year.

Organ donation works.  If you live in central Ohio, you can sign up to become a donor thru www.lifelineofohio.org  ..
You can also become a donor when you renew your driver's lisence.  Each state has a different procurement organization and all 50 states work together so that the correct organ/tissue go where it is needed most and has the highest chance of becoming a successful transplant.

I should have posted this a couple years ago, but with the transplant going on 5 years and the start of National Donor Awareness month, I figured now was the time.

So sorry to hear of the loss but what a wonderful gift she left. Recently had a friend die from a massive stoke, 53 years old and he was also a donor. He give hope to a few different folks across the country. It is a great thing to do. Thanks for posting the suggestion.

Washington state has been endorsing driver licenses with organ doners since the 70's. Have done it since the start when I was a teen.
