Reinhardt Pipes o2 sensor
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:50:37 PM »

I'm running the true duals on my 103 seeg, the front cylinder pipe has a threaded plug where it looks like an O2 sensor wood go.  The plug keeps backing out, not a big deal really, but got me wondering if there should be a sensor plugged in there.  Any thoughts?  Would Loctite hold that plug?

Your bike doesn't have O2 sensors - but that is what the threaded fitting/plug is for.  If you never intend to use the pipes on a bike with O2 sensors, then use Loctite or high temp silicone - either should keep the plug in...   :2vrolijk_21:

Does the rear header have the same thing?  Not sure why they would have put those headers (for 07 and later) on your bike when there are still new "bung-less" headers to be had out there.  If you have a plug in both headers, do what Sadunbar said and either loctite or liquid weld them in.  You'll never have a reason to remove the plugs unless you want to go to a TMaxx Autotune closed loop system.

Bikes an '05, maybe that explains the pipes.

"TMaxx autotune closed loop system"?  Your gonna have to explain that one to me.

Thanks for the quick answers!

The pipes are either for the '07 and later models that come stock with O2 sensors, or were added to allow the use of an aftermarket ECM (Electronic Control Module) with a closed loop feedback system.  The Thundermax with Autotune is one such aftermarket device, there are several others as well.  The '05 models did not come with a closed loop system, so if you have the stock ECM there would be no reason to install sensors in the pipes.  Thus the plugs.

The plugs should be installed with a high temp thread sealant to prevent leaks.  That will also keep the plug from backing out by itself.

The TMaxx autotune replaces your ECM and uses wideband O2 sensors.  Some of the folks on here have this system installed.   This system, after a base load is put in the ECM, supposedly eliminates the need for dyno turning after you do any types of mods to your engine, as it learns "on-the-fly" and self adjusts.  There are plenty of threads in the forum about the TMaxx to read up on.
