Tour-Pak Rack Light Kit Installation question
« on: June 08, 2009, 05:59:12 PM »

Hi, I am in the process of installing the red lensed Tour-Pak rack light kit on my 2009 FLHTCUSE4. After installing it and feeling good, I look at the end of the instructions and see the word "Note:As an additional precaution against moisture seepage into the Tour-Pak, apply silicone sealant to the entrance of the light harness wire tunnel".  :-\ Needless to say, I didn't do that and am now wondering if I'll have a problem if I don't do it? Went over to the dealer and one service writer says thet don't do, but then I see and happen to mention it to the service manager and he gives me a non-verbal gesture I interpret as meaning maybe yes, maybe no. If any of you installed or had installed this supplemental light on the bottom edge of the CVO tour pak rack is the entrance of the light harness wire tunnel sealed with silicone (this is where the wires from the light enter the rack)? Thanks

I put a dab of silicone grease just in case, no problems with water entering after 4 washes.

Hi Brinks, thanks. I just looked at where they say to seal it and it shouldn't be too difficult, although I hate working with silicone. If the stuff could be cleaned up with a solvent, I probably wouldn't mind so much.

I installed one this weekend.  I did apply a little silicone in the opening.  I doubt that water would enter in "normal" circumstances, but "better safe than sorry.  There was a small tube included with the kit.  You could take a razor knife and modify the plug you removed and put it back into the hole.
