Is the Gold CVO Key a BIG deal?
« on: November 15, 2005, 07:22:25 PM »

Just joined the group and boy am I glad to be here! You guys really helped in the topics you cover and aid me in making an informed decision to buy one of these bikes.
The question is I am about to close a deal on a 05 SEEG Red with 1349 mi. at in my opinion a very good price. No mods other than Python slip ons and a remap. The owner (a car dealer in Chicago) seems to have everything but the gold key. Is this a big deal or not? Can these keys be replaced and how important would it be if I were to resell the bike?

It's only important if you think it is...   You can buy an exact raplacement fot 50-60 bucks...   Mine didn't fit the ignition when I got my bike, so the stealer had to order a new one...

Is it true only the original owner can order a replacement key? My local HD dealer told me just that, then another guy at the same place said they can't be ordered at all.

You can order the CVO Gold keys yourself, it's a catalog item ($89). Normally just produce the registration to prove the CVO VIN #, etc. and give 'em your plastic. Their listed right there with the other expensive keys to drive up the stock price  ;)

When I got mine, saw a Screamin Eagle Keychain in the display case - it's oval and the center turns - has the SE logo on one side and the bar and sheild on the other. Going to put the keychain and Gold Key in a picture box frame this winter when I have some spare time....

Don't know about your dealer but the ones here have never refused to take my money....

It doesn't make the bike go any faster, it doesn't make the bike look any better, My key has been sitting in the safe since I bought the bike.
A bunch of guys got plaques when they bought their bikes. I got my bike new from someone who backed out on the deal. So no plaque for me.  I got enough stuff laying around the house.

Just a different opinion for you

Forget about it. Buy the bike and have fun.  8-)

I have the Gold Key for my last couple of Screaming Eagles, setting on Fire Place Mantle

My dealer does a neat gift when you buy a scooter from them, as they give a
really nice plaque with a picture of your scooter, VIN#, the dealers signature and it says
"Custom Made For ---- ------". really does look nice.

Here is the website where HD Dealer can order the Plaques:

I had my HD Dealer get my 2002 SERK and 2003 SERK and now have all three SE's on the wall

Since I purchased mine, it has sit in a desk drawer...if it becomes an issue, I guess I would re-order if necessary.
