John

I had the H-D lowering kit (cartridge) in my Road King.

Thanks Dan,

That is exactly the kind of feedback I wanted.  I already have the spring lowering kit sitting here to install if I ever get the time & I think those are the same parts as your bike.

I was considering exchanging that kit for the cartridge kit thinking that might provide a BETTER ride, but reading your post obviously that is not the case.

Thanks for the info  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Right from new I changed my front fork oil to the heavier Screaming Eagle fork oil. Did so cause my Harley D dealer advised it reduces front wheel dive. Changed the lower fork hardware all to chrome at same time.

Since we are talking about front fork oil.....I changed the oil on the B/B bike's front forks. The FLHTCSE2 manual says to add 314 ml of oil to each fork leg. The road king that is not lowered takes 328ml when changing the front fork oil. I noticed that there is no difference mentioned in either manual for complete disassembly vs oil change only. I measured the amount that came out of each fork leg. It was about 260ml. Did the factory not put enough oil in the forks or did they retain 54ml of oil? And if so why does the HD manual have you add 314ml? And if I added the required 314ml of oil like the manual says to do, have I overfilled the front forks? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The only really accurate way to measure fork oil is to measure the level of it in the fork leg.  There are tools you can buy to do this, I made my own.

Installing the fork lowering kit today, I needed the oil to be 4.21 inches from the top of the fork tube.

I don't use the SE oil, it rides too stiff for my taste.

Just got off the phone with the master tech at the local dealership about the fork oil. He said that HD used to publish different amounts for a freshly rebuilt or new fork leg vs just changing the oil but now only publish one amount for both. The procedure in the shop manual calls for 314ml in each leg of our forks when changing oil, so thats the quantity to use.

Actually, that amount should be the starting point to get you close, then you set the level to get it correct.

Hey Dan,

I installed the spring lowering kit & tried it out today.  It rides & handles exactly as you say, I am very very happy with it.

Thanks again,
~John

PS: I heard from two other people who said the ride sucks with the cartridge lowering kit

John, glad the change worked for you.  I installed a Corbin solo on the SEEG this week (not happy with the way it fits;too many gaps)but it changes the seating position enough to the rear to affect the ride.  I actually had to increase the pre-load on the 440's.  Time to lose some weight!

Hey Dan,

Corbin seats need to be "fussed with" sometimes to get them to fit just right.  This one:

gave me fits when I first put it on & did not seem to fit well at all.  After over an hour of screwing around with it I got it to fit pefectly & I LOVE the thing.
