One more Newbie Question Please
« on: July 17, 2009, 03:16:31 PM »

Ok, since its my first Harley I am not used to a "red line" at 5,500.  I rarely take the bike past 4K RPMs just because well I dont want to "hurt it".  I know these engines are "older" technology but do you guys feel comfortable taking her up to say 5K RPMS, without worry of damage to engine?

Sorrry, I know all 101 questions but Im a track day, knee of the ground guy, and I love my cruiser ... in fact ... there is no other feeling in the world from that "rumble", even when it sparks up the first time (love that).  So, I dont want to over stress the engine and with the older technology I just thought I would ask.

If "red line" is 5.5RPM ... is it normal procedure to take it up to say 5RPM ?  Also, I am not used to riding any bike under 3K RPM (lugging engine...just as bad as blasting it all the way up).

What are your thoughts ?    I have the 2007 110 SERK, running wonderfully...but its like Im i tchin to push her but hesitant.  I mean this is my first (and probably) last screamin eagle.  Want to keep it for a LOOOOOONGGGG time.

THANKS!

You will not being doing any harm to your engine at all bringing it up to 5K. Rev it up and enjoy your bike! I'm new to the 110" as well. Don't get me wrong I have had a few bikes, 2 choppers, 2 v-rods, fatboy, road king custom. I love the SERK, what a nice comfortable bike.  Only thing that I'm not used to is all the noise these 110's make. From what I have seen, read and others have told me its normal.
