Covers for ugly sides of Tour-pak rack
« on: December 04, 2005, 05:58:08 PM »

All you 00 SERG owners already know this, but for everyone else with a 01, 02 and 03  The 00 SERG came with leather look plastic covers that snap over the sides of the Tour-pak rack to fill in the blank sides. Looks great, blends the tour-pak and rack into the seat. Ask your dealer to look em up in the supplemental parts catalogue for the 00 SERG. $200 for the set  (yeah like everything else exclusive to the SE line, they're way over priced)

Wonder if these will work to cover the UGLY wires on the right side where they enter the amp.  Worth a trip to the dealer to check.

Spiderman, you're saying these will only work on 2000 - 2003 models?  Awhile back we were talking about these for the SEEGs but weren't sure if they'd work.  Did something change in the design of the racks after '03?

The racks changed from 04 to 05.  When we were discussing these a couple of months ago I remember someone's picture and it looked pretty clear the 04 and prior racks could use the side covers.  The 05 and later guys were probably out of luck though.

I was lookin at this with a buddy who has an 05 SEEG. You could actually use the older styler rack if you wanted. You still need all three attachement points in the quick detach system to be able to put a tour-pak on the 04 and 05 as well as use the passenger back rest and they haven;t repositioned these from the 00 and on up. Why the MoCo changed the tour-pak rack we couldn't figure other than the rack is smaller and maybe easier to attach and remove.I actually prefer the older rack since it puts the forward attachment point over the shocks and hence the load center of gravity should be more forward. Bottom line, the way I see it, if you wanted to use an older style rack and put the side covers on your 04, and 05 you could. The Leather Turtle they put on the 06 is not detacheable is it ?

Spider, the best guess for the new rack is that the old style had a few cracking problems.  A few here have seen it and/or replaced because of it.

Thought I remembered someone having posted pictures at least one of the times it had come under discussion.  Take a look at this thread:
