my problem
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:40:48 PM »

My problem is this:
I
My current ride is a cvo road glide 2009. I was looking at getting the big dog k-9 to add to my garage. Was thinking about it for a while, then I understood that a chopper is really not for me (also have a 2008 street bob, never ride it at all). The 300 tire in the back is not my cup of tea. Look wise it looks great but ride wise it’s just not for me. So im thinking the exact other side of the spectrum.
How about trading my road glide for a 2010 cvo ultra, with detachable tour pack? At 6.1 220lb is that to much of a bike for me? My inseam is about 34.5…
And I have being only riding for a 1.5 so far.
What do you guys think?

Why not get a detachable TourPak for your RoadGlide? You could also get heated grips, seat and com system with CB/Intercom etc. for it so you don't take a loss on selling/trading in for the new bike.
The seat height on the Ultra would be taller but with that inseam you should be physically able to handle it. but it does make it slightly more top heavy especially if loaded compaired to a 09 RoadGlide. Weightwise there isn't too much difference overall.
Maybe a program like Ride Like a Pro would give you more knowledge and confidence to handle a taller/heavier bike? You could watch the videos or best is to sign up and take a course.

One of the site members here instructs a course and he is in California and has bikes for you to learn on too.

BB,

Moved your question so you'll get more feedback.  My $.02:  I see you started with the Streetbob and picked up the SERG in April.  If you don't ride the bob you'll never ride the K-9.  I rarely ride my Titan now that I have the SERG even though I love it when I do.  I'm 5'11" and whiled the SERG feels roomy, the Ultra feels cramped (to me).

The question is, "What kind of riding do you do?"  I like the SERG for it's versatility.  I can tour with the Ultra and whip is around corners when I want.  Having said that, no bike is too much for you.  Woman ride Ultras with technique, not strength.  (Talk to Vgirl).  If a touring bike starts to go down, even in a parking lot, few of us have the strength to hold it up.  An advanced class is always great to give you more confidence on your bike (and teach you limits).

You shouldn't have any trouble with the CVO Ultra. I don't think it weighs much more than that heavy CVO RG. Mine is a load at low speed. However, if you like the RG then I would get a tourpak for it. The thing that is so cool about the SERG is that it is one of the coolest bikes on the street when in the street mode. It can then be converted to a kickass touring bike in about 14 1/2 minutes. The only other bike you can do that with is the Street Glide but it takes 16 minutes to convert it over. T.
