Well, I just did it.  I signed up for the Patriot Riders.  I am very glad I found this group, thanks to folks from this forum.  I have always been the first to express my gratitude to our servicemen, in words and I am excited that now I can put those feelings into actions instead of just words.

Also, I don't know if you have all heard of the Gratitude Salute.
I had the opportunity to use it last Friday at a bar.  A serviceman was at the bar and as I walked by I gave him the salute.  He stopped me and shook my hand.  He told me that we would never know how much things like that mean to them.  I was almost embarrassed by his gratitude.  I told him that I was glad that my appreciation meant so much, but in comparison to what they do for us, it was nothing.  I pointed out that I did not have to deal with any IED's when I say thank you to them!

We participated in a Patriot Ride in Kingman, Arizona this last Sunday. Not only were there riders but there were citizens as well. We met at the local community college and were escorted by the local fire company. The ride ended at the local VFW where a lunch was offered by the post and presentations were made by the Mayor of Kingman and others. We had two servicemen to honer this day, a Navy Petty officer back from his second tour in Iraq and a Marine Lance Corporal back from his first tour in Iraq. Along the parade route the local citizenry were waving flags and honking horns and waving. I must say, if anyone tells you that patriotism is dead then they must not be paying attention! I highly recommend that you participate in any one of these rides. Please remember that some rides are to honor the fallen. If you do not have a Guard where you live, consider starting one.

(A side note) We were originally scheduled to ride on Saturday but had to reschedule due to Mrs. Obama and her boat ride. It took an extra day to turn the boat around and take her for a ride. While the compliment of sailors stood parade on deck no less. !sigh!
