3000 rpm stutter miss on 103 seeg
« on: August 15, 2009, 05:00:09 PM »

Bought this bike a few weeks back. Rode her home from Iowa. I have a 3000 rpm issue. It sputters and stumbles at 3000 rpm, no matter what i do. The plugs look fine, no air leaks, have used 85-91 octane fuel... all the same. This is a constant miss, and i am forced to either downshift to get the rpm's up, or give er' the onion and power through it. I like to ride pretty fast, but this is aggravating ...... Any ideas???  could it be mapped too lean right there? Would a Power Commander be a good Idea???

1.  what is/was it tuned with to put the Thunderheader ?  and open air breather on it

If you are fine above and below 3k rpm the guess (cause that is what it would be) without a data run to confirm it on a dyno or with a data gathering device like twin tec or Datamaster from TTS or Super SERT is that you are lean there and that is the miss your feeling / seeing and annoyed with.

The power commander would probably help in the hands of a good tuner, but first thing i would suggest is paying to have a diagnostic run on a dyno done and go from there.

Lets say you have a tuning device, I would suggest adding some fuel in the range where you are seeing the problem.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks.... It is fresh off the Dyno and was supposed to be right. Dyno aint riding though. I had the same idea about it being lean there

you should have received a little black box called a dongle.  It would have costed you somewhere around 459.00 or so plus or minus any discount you get.

It would be called if bought from the Harley dealer a Super SERT.   If you have just gotten the bike back from paying for a dyno tune my suggestion would be to march the bike back to the person that tuned it and let them fix it.   In the case of it being lean the VE tables would need to be raised to add more fuel in the places you feel it is hesitating.

I dont have a picture of the Super SERT Dongle, but I am sure someone can post it from the catalog or one they have.  It looks a lot like the Original SERT by Steve Cole.

Thanks for the phone conversation..... Really cleared things up for me. Will keep you posted on how it works out.
