Living in Cali, this is the very reason I went to the 96 CU.IN. Stock headers and the fullsac swap on the baffles, sounds great, can hear you comin down the road but doesn't drown the Tunes out.....Not that I am an expert but the change out was pretty simple and would do it again, plus Steve supplied a dyno so didn't have to incur that expense.

Which baffles did you have installed, 1.75 or the 2.0. Was thinking of doing the same myself but I love the sound of my Super Trap SE's...I don't want loud either

I guess my questions are these, if you do the baffles and retain the stock "look" of the muffler along with the EPA compliance stamp or engraving etc., will the cops ticket you?  In a shack down like this, do they have the equipment to tell if they are louder than EPA certification limits?

In Missouri all you have to have are mufflers.  When I called to see what might be required on my new boardtrack project, the inspection officer said I had to have mufflers.  I asked what sound limit and he repeated again, v e r y   s l o w l y, you only have to have "a" muffler...

I don't plan on being on the east coast soon, but I was just wondering about you guys out there and if the baffle change would be the preferred method for more sound without having "aftermarket" mufflers.

I also understand that Colorado has a law that the mufflers need to have an EPA certification sticker or stamping.  Do they check sound level or just look for the certification?

Good luck to the guys having to deal with this.  If it's not that Expressway this weekend, it will be another and sooner or later you'll have to make the decision like Hoist said, go by and let them chase you down if they want you.  The only thing with them chasing you down it that if you had ANY chance before to get out of a marginal item, kiss that chance good by.

Never know Dan. They've been known to carry sound meters too here! And them Fullsacs ain't doing chit for you if they have that. You got 2.25's in there, and get stopped by a guy with a dB meter, you're getting a ticket anyway. Maybe worse for trying to pass em off as stock. Who knows what's coming next! All about revenue, and with this moron we have for a president, it's bound to only get worse!!! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I just ordered the 2.25" fullsacs and should have them sometime next week. Maybe by the next time I run into you at OBI I will have installed them and you can hear how it sounds.

Didn't know fullsac had 2.25's, When I spoke to him he only mentioned 1.75 and 2.0. I'll be anxious to here yours mjb. I've spoken to you the last two times I was there, I have the red SG...I'll be lookin for ya.
The NY Sate Troopers had no decibel meeter last Sunday. My friend told me the trooper just walked over to his bike (which was turned off at this point) looked at his pipes , said they weren't stock and wrote him a ticket. The other guy was running wrapped  straight pipes and got a ticket for the same reason. They then proceded to check for all the other stuff

He said I would lose a little low end torque with the 2.25", but not really enough to feel when riding but you will see it on the dyno. I can live with that since I am so used to straight pipes that I need to get the louder of the choices from them. It won't sound great since I still have the cat and that's not leaving until the winter.

Dan, Rhodie Island, based it's law on the one from Colorado. The mufflers need to be origanal manufactures  equipment. The sound issue is determined by the police officer. Only in Rhodie could up with something so S T U P I D. kb

In the boating world, they have been targeting offshore boats for years. However, all they care about is if you meet the sound level ordinance, and they do test you on the spot. I learned the hard way, way back then and had to pony up for a new set of Gaffrigs for $4K. Anyway, if you pass, they don't care what you're running, so long as you're not too loud.

Accordingly, unless there's an emissions angle to this, I don't think it's lawful to issue a tick merely because there exists aftermarket components, as long as the loudness level is the same. That would be counter-intuitive to the Magnuson-Moss act to some degree. Even if they tried to play the emissions angle, they would have to prove you exceed the standard as a result, not merely get worse, so that's not appropriate either.

Seems to me this is an unlawful act and ABATE should be involved.

Unfortunately, the way the laws are written, they can write the ticket and then YOU have to prove it otherwise.  It's all B-chit.

I dunno, but the Bill of Rights provide that you're innocent until proven guilty. Imo, ABATE has to get involved, or what the heck are they for?
