Thanks...did you do by yourself? easy? any special instructions?

Very easy.  Hardest part is getting the saddlebag filler strips off.  You will need a T-40 torx bit long enough to get through the access hole on the outside of the filler strip.  I have a set of torx bits which fit in 1/4" socket.  Then attached socket with torx bit to extension on my ratchet.  No problem.  Then just a couple bolts & nuts to undo where muffler brackets are and bolt in guard rails, and secure to rear saddlebag guard and you're done.

Since I have a 'melon bike the filler strips were black and I was able to locate a set of black painted notched filler strips (now discontinued) from another dealer and used them.

Looks great to me.  I know they probably would not hold up if bike dropped but may offer some protection from passerby bumping the bags.  And, as I said, I just like the look.

In any case the saddle bags will never be completely protected.....

On my 2001 Ultra with the stock rails in place, some joker rolled back into the bike and his exhaust left a nasty dig and scratch in one of my bags. (Hit & Run) heard what happened from a bystander when I was leaving. Of course they didn't see the scratch so they never took down the plate number.

I think you have to take the painted strips that are between the fender and saddlebag off to put the saddlebag rails on.

And then after the rails are in there to put the strips back or something else? Any help will be appreciated...Thanks [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Either that or notch them or get the chromed versions that have the notch already in them.

you can take the stock ones, tape up the painted side real good and have a shop machine out the slot on a mill. Cheaper than having em painted since the paint is probably $100 a qt and unless your painter does his own custom mixing blending and owns a spectrometer, he'll have to buy a qt. from the local PPG or Dupont wholesaler. The only thing you need to do after they're milled is touch up the raw edge with some paint from the touch up kit Or go with the chrome or black ones as mentined above.

How come no one answered my question as to why the MoCo stripped off all of the stuff you guys are putting back on.

thanks for the advise spiderman..... [smiley=drink.gif]

Thanks...so I realized that like you other had the same idea......BTW what REAR SPOILER LED are you waiting? [smiley=nervous.gif]
That would be the kit on page 414 of the big book. Harley calls it the Color Match Lid Spoiler kit.
