Taller Bars on an 03 SERK? Help!
« on: August 14, 2009, 08:36:52 PM »

Just picked up an 03 SERK . . . love it, but my arms are too short.  Just like on my 03 Fatboy.  I put heritage bars on the 03 Fatboy and they were perfect . . . I did not have to change the cable.

I know the stock bars on the 03 SERK are the special 1.5" bars.  I need to get more height and pullback to me with a different set of bars without having to replace all of the internal cables . . .

Anybody put taller bars on an 03 SERK without changing the cables?

Which brand of 10" bars?  And, the stock bars on the 03 SERK are 1.5" . . . so, who would make 10" bars which are 1.5 " in diameter so that I would not have to change the cables or the riser?

Anybody?

risers are cheap if you change the diameter of the bars i dropped down to a 1" bar for the convienence of availability as well as compatabilty with some other things i was doing at the time.

some pics of the change out no cables or wires were changed

i added passing lamps at the same time

after pics

Naitram . . . you have done the two things I desire . . . passing lights and handlebars!  OK . . . love it . . . great looking bars . . . I have the 03 SERK . . . the wiring is internal on the handle bars.  I am wanting to add passing lights at the same time too!

If you would, shoot me the part numbers on the passing lights, the bars, and the risers you put on . . . especially since you did not have to change cables?

What about the internal wiring on the stock 03 SERK handlebars?

i bought flanders 10" bars and ive chnaged the passing lamps to the CVO style since,

i used a dremel to open up the wireing holes in the flanders to make it easier to get the wires through

best bet on P/Ns is to vist a dealer and explain what you want to do. the turn signals have multiple P/Ns depending on lense color

i'd use

Chrome Auxiliary Lighting Bracket Kit

Shaped by the wind, these Custom Passing Lamp Brackets blend into the curving contours of the Road King® nacelle or the Electra Glide® fairing. The chrome-plated brackets serve as stylized mounting points for the passing lamp housings and available bullet style turn signals, adding a smooth look that eliminates the cross brace and flat side supports of the Original Equipment installation. Kit includes passing lamp housings, chrome mounting brackets and hardware. Installation requires the re-use of Original Equipment sealed beam lamps and retaining rings. Bullet Turn Signal Kits sold separately.

I was dealing with the same issue with my SERK3 I am short and am reaching and I too was use to a Heritage bar with 2" risers. I opted to try the Flanders 1.25" Touring bar..

Here is the bar

Looking for some taller . . . like the Heritage bars.  Thanks, though.

I had the Wild1 Chubby (1.25) RK bars on my bike and they were uncomfortably low and and too forward. I'm 6.4" so I went with the Wild1 Chubby 10" mini apes. I liked having the grips higher in the air. It feels more natural...ergonomically speaking. I did not need to buy longer throttle or clutch cables either. I really like the larger diameter of the chubbies, the chrome and quality is excellent. Oh, they are necked down to 1 inch at the clamps, so no sleeve is necessary.

There's a decent write up with pics on the Wild1 site on changing bars on a 03 FLHRC. I did it in about 3 hours, taking my time. Go for em, you'll like em!
