Broken Rinehart clamp
« on: September 19, 2009, 04:20:01 AM »

I've got the true-dual Rineharts on my '08 Street Glide, and I'm fairly certain it's the same set-up on most touring bikes, pre-'09. I discovered this broken exhaust clamp, a couple weeks ago on my bike and just thought you guys would want this info on yours as well. This is a pic of the right side exhaust, just behind the floorboard. You can't see this clamp very well from above, so you have to get underneath the exhaust and look up. The bracket that holds the clamp, attaches to the transmission, just below the chrome cover. On mine, it looks like one side of the clamp broke some time ago, and the other side just broke recently. I acquired a 1" wide piece of 16 gauge stainless steel and fabbed up a replacement clamp.

Anyone else had a problem with this? Just thought you guys would want to know, before yours breaks too.

Just had this happen about 2 weeks ago also.  When I ended up taking mine off I also had to replace the stock bracket that goes to the transmission with 4 bolts.  It seems to have also broken the cross beam piece where the X is below.  I threw it out already so I can't take a picture.

Due to whatever is going on between Drag, Rinehart, and Bub you may find them not being as warranty sensitive as they have been in the past.   If you need the new Bracket it was 19.95 at Harley stock replacement then you will need the P Clamp from Rinehart.   If you are replacing the P clamp a recommendation since it is cheap, is to have new heat shield clamps at the ready and put them in when you redo it.  I had two of them bust as well on the end when trying to thread them.

The only thing that broke on mine was the p-clamp. The mount was in perfect condition still. I had this happen when the pipes were about 14+ months old, so I said screw it. It took me about an hour to tear it all aprt, fab the new clamp, and put it all back together. I figured it would have taken that long just to weasel through all the automated phone prompts to get to a live person. And now, I KNOW it's fixed, the right way. :)

well thats good you got all taken care of.   If ever you do have to call over there,, it's a pretty good experience,   no hassles at all and that's nice to know. Her name is Jennifer if you do call.

I noticed my rear header clamp broke along with a cracked rear header pipe last June. I contacted Bub's in Grass Valley. They offered to send me a replacement clamp and a rear header pipe at no cost but i chose to drive the 26 miles and pick up the parts. They were cool, no questions asked. I think they had issues with their earlier true duals.  :nixweiss:

Maybe I should call them and have that bracket on the shelf, "just in case". Thanks for the heads-up!
