Fiberglass vs Plastic
« on: August 25, 2005, 03:03:51 PM »

Back when I took delivery of my '03 SERK, there was an issue with poor paint on one of the saddlebags (amagine that??????).  The dealer agreed to replace it and after 6 months of waiting, my new saddlebag arrived.  Well, it was of the new PC-ABS material instead of the fiberglass.  I now have one that is black inside (plastic) and one that is gray/white (fiberglass/SMC).

I've noted that the plastic saddlebag has much less wavyness and seems much thicker. I guess I'm the test case for which holds up better.  What's the groups experience with the new bag material?  More importantly, does it keep beer colder than the old fiberglass????? [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Most of the people prefer to use plastic because it is weightless. Plastic is actually more affordable than fiber glass. Fiber glass is too finicky.

Does the paint hold up equally well to both materials?  If buying new is there any advantage to one over the other?

Thanks

 :cherry:
As I recall,  the (old) style fiberglass would sometimes put off a hell of a bad odor......not so with the new style.  So anything stored inside won't get stinked up.
