Today I had the honor of escorting home about 100 Marines coming back from Iraq. They were being bussed up from Camp Pendleton to their home base in San Bruno. Between 75-100 motocycles met them about 100 miles out and we escorted them to base, flags flying. There were some major highlights, so of course I didn't have my camera today. We came through Gilroy and there was a construction sign on the side of the road just before we got to town. It said "Welcome Home from Iraq, Marines! Thank you for your service". We get into town and the police had the intersections blocked for us, and there were 15-20 policemen in their dress uniforms flanking the road, all of them saluting the busses as we passed. It was absolutely AWESOME! When we got to the base, the Fire Department had their ladders up with the flag hanging between them, police and fire in dress uniforms saluting them as they entered the base. Again, it was fantastic! There had to be close to 1,000 family members waiting and I can't tell you how many Marines and family came over to thank us for doing this. Are they insane? We are doing something that we love to do for a day. These guys and gals have been in 120 degree temperatures fighting for our freedom for months! Overall, an amazing day!!!
