Power Lock Failure 2010 SEUC
« on: June 20, 2010, 12:07:16 PM »

I wrote yesterday about my remote key not locking my bags on my 2010 SEUC, but today discovered that the power lock button on the bike does not work as well. I was wondering if it could be a fuse and if anyone else has had this problem. Any advise would be much apprectiated. Thanks.

 :confused5:
I am assuming you had the switch (on) when you tried the lock switch on the bike and also that you tried your (other set) of keys/fobs to be sure it was not a fob battery issue :nixweiss:

If the above is correct,  then a fuse has been blown or somehow power to the locks has been interrupted.

Have you checked out the fuse box?

I pulled the fuse and it was good and I replaced it and the system worked. I put back the cover to the fuse box and the side cover and the left rear bag and it stopped working again. Very puzzling.

Can't help with your problem, but by definition you have a brandnew bike under warranty. What is your reason for not letting the dealer sort this out?

Ride safely,

then you probably have a loose connection near the fuse box or pinching a cable near the left bag?

You know what Louis said is right it's still under warranty. But I had the same problem on my 09. I hate taking my bike in the summer because I want to ride the dame thing, and they want me to leave it ( sorry I got off track)

Check the connections at the saddle bags. They should clip in a holder under the fender, now trace the wire. My left wire harness was rubbing againt the rear tire and then grounded the left side. So disconnect one bag at a time, and see if it works. Then trace the wires to see if its GND-ed to the frame. if so you can tell HD exactly whats wrong and get it fixed  faster.

Mine quit working intermittently like that too. I pulled the saddlebags off to investigate, and found that the wire harnesses going to the saddlebag connectors on both sides had been rubbing on the tire sidewalls. Eventually the tire chewed through the wires far enough that they shorted out and the system stopped working completely.

My dealer repaired them as a "goodwill" gesture, but indicated that I had probably pulled the harnesses out of position when unplugging the connectors to the saddlebags. I can't prove anything one way or the other, but I am Very Careful now when I unplug them. I have also removed the little tab that makes it harder to press the release portion on the connector.

Since the connectors are located in a tight space and there isn't much slack available to disconnect/connect them, I'll admit that it COULD  :o be my fault the harnesses were pulled into a position that made them rub on the tire. But it seems to me that the connectors should be easier to use to begin with, and the harnesses should be tied securely to the frame and/or protected better to prevent that kind of mishap. Mine are now zip tied to the frame to prevent future problems...  8)

I used to have problems with mine breaking from time to time awhile back, but not anymore, that constant headache is gone.
Mine would always go out at the most inopportune times, and I got sick and tired of having to take it down to the dealer and drop it off so that they could work on it, just so that it work for a couple three weeks at a time and then break again. I ordered me a "skull" key from the parts counter for my bike, and I never use the power locks anymore. I manually use the key to lock the bags & TP now. I have been doing it for 6 months or so and now its like second nature to me. I can now lock which ever bags I want locked and leave the others unlocked or whatever. Screw those power locks. Its a gimick thing to me, personally. Its not like a car where it works 95-100% of time. It craps out all the time. Once, my bike was in the shop for 2 weeks torn apart, waiting on a new "module" which was supposedly on "backorder" . Not anymore though.. I know alot of people like the feature though, and I hope that you can get your problem squared away soon. I still unplug and plug back in the connectors when I wash my bike though. I just don't use the feature,  or use the fat key anymore.. JohnT.
