Front suspension clunking
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:02:08 AM »

My front end seems clunky,  I trailered it to Colorado and noticed when i got there. Front end is clunkin, what should i check? I tried to not crank it down too hard in the trailer, could it be just oil? I didnt see any leaks. Any suggestions? Anybody have this problem? HELP! I dont want to go to the stealer without some knowledge! :nixweiss:

Dealer charge should be no more than 1.0hr rate for adjusting, How many miles are on your bike ? Your bike
(04 SEEG) came with low profile front schocks from the Mo Co, So no spring replacement (if there is no problom with them) needed. Depending on miles, Fork oil change may be required as well.
Hope this helps..

You can change the fork oil yourself. It's very easy and there is a thread on this site that will explain how to do it. I just did two bikes using the same method and it took no time at all. I've not done neck bearings so i do not know what is involved in that, but I will look in my maintenance book and see.

You are over due for front fork oil and neck lube and adjustment. I would keep it parked till you actually find the problem.

good advice, too hot to ride here anyway, i'll be taking it in next week and letting them have at it. I just like to get an idea before doing so. It was handling pretty crappy in Colorado two weeks ago, i had to take it easy, what with no guardrail and 300-500 foot drops on a two lane!! Oh well, im approaching 50 and lived longer than i ever thought anyway!! Thanks for the input.  :pumpkin:

Well, that's a pretty cavalier attitude, but hate to see you ruin a SEEG in the process.  All kidding aside, it's probably a neck lube/adjustment issue with only 20k miles.  spyder

Is the 09  SERG lowered by the MOCO as I just put 13"440"s(heavy duty) Progressives on rear with the thought of improving the sudden jolts when riding two up ( chopped box-#220lbs with #125lbs passenger), is my next step the front end--traxxion etc and should I request the front be raised to standard specs when addressing the front end?

had a similar clunk on the nanar, the front fender bolts had worked loose, simple fix, a little lock tight, and torque. You will have to remove the front wheel to do it right. :bananarock:

theres a zerk on the steering neck. they dont fill em with grease at factory so get a tube and fill it until you see some coming out at bottom. hd has a spec grease. some of them will drip or ooze a little after you first do it. youll be shocked by how much it takes
