Chrome Headbot Bridge
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:47:19 PM »

I was looking forward to installing some more chrome on the new SERG. Well.... I ran onto a small problem... I hate to start grinding on this newly chromed metal ....

It is impossible to get the covers (each marked front or rear) mixed up as they won't come close to mounting if you get them reversed.

Ideas ?

Off set spark plugs....Kidding of course. I do not think there is a solution except:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=28675.0 :2vrolijk_21:

Are you sure you got the bridge for the 99 and up touring models? I think there's a difference but can't remember what's different about them?

110 heads have offset plugs compared to the 96. You can cheat with the finned bridge. their is just enough room. :2vrolijk_21:

Get out your dremel & start grinding! They will fit, but you have to take a lot of meat off 'em.

If you put those on, make sure you want them there for the rest of time.  Cause it will rust in some places and if you evere take them off, you will have to put something else on there to cover it.  How do I know cause, just I was selling a bike a few years ago and thought hey I'll take thes off and put them on my next bike.  Took one off and it looked so chity under there, that I put it back on and off they went with the bike.  Let's Roll

I have had the same problem. So there is nothing else at the cylinders now. The finned ones dont fit within the colour!

I read somewhere, on more than one occasion, that you do not want to install the chrome headbolt bridge on the 110" motor due to excessive heat.  Some of us have gone with the finned bridges and painted them to match the engine color.  They look good and if you want some additional chrome on the left side of the motor, throw on some air horns and chrome inner primary.  Just a thought.

Studied on it and couldn't bring myself to grind so much meat off the chrome covers to make them fit properly. Sent them back and exchanged for the black finned headbolt bridge. I will try to match the granite color with the NAPA spec color mentioned earlier in this thread. Thanks for your comments and suggestions...

:-[Sure wish I'd done a search here prior to wasting the last three hours in the garage on what is probably the last good riding day of this year!  We're paying union wage prices for chit made in Taiwan because some fool at the MOCO doesn't know there's a difference in the spark plug off-set.
