If I ran the Moco today
« on: October 16, 2009, 01:49:38 PM »

... we would have only one model in each line. (Maybe two including CVOs)... It would be a very basic stripped down version, offered at a much lower price than any of the "way too many" models available today. HD stores would become like "Build-a-bike" stores. The basic foot pegs etc. would come with a refund or "trade-in" value assigned to them. You could build an Ultra for about the same price as you can buy that model today, but it would be made using only the parts "You wanted"...

People could get their first Harley at a lower price than today, but be able to customize later on when they had some extra bucks....

Vote for me! LOL

But they charge a premium for substandard stuff that you replace with marginal stuff at a huge margin.  Been working over a 100 years now...

Then you have to remember the service guys hourly rate. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I do hear ya on having the base model and building it up as you go but some people fear change and it probably won't happen. It will be interesting to see what the next steps are going to be.

That would be a good plan but I would limit the CVO's to one model each year similar to what they do now, and I would dress them to the nine's in chrome and extras that you could not purchase for the base model, there by making the CVO a trully unique vehicle for that model year.   :pepper:

How about an on-line order system, customize order..

Non production !!!!!

I know , then they won't sell you two parts for the same bike......

Your plan would never work for me in a million years, because what I do with all the extra room in my garage from the extra parts. And then what would Karen holla at me about then.   :2vrolijk_21:

I have thought that for years! Harley should change from Willie G's "Blank slate" ideas for the customer and cut inventory and shipping issues, as well as printing that massive parts catalog.
To me the blank slate idea should be at the dealership at the time of ordering the bike!
Just imagine the idea of getting that bike of your dreams with everything you want and nothing extra, then all you do is take delivery and ride the bike!!!!!!  (Throwing in periodic maintenance of course.)
