HD Garage Door Opener Transmitter wiring?
« on: August 29, 2009, 11:34:19 AM »

I have a transmitter laying around but no wiring diagram to install it on the SESG.  Four wires coming out, I assume Hot, Ground, High beam, low beam.  Can anyone confirm the wiring so I can install...the CUSE is still at the shop so I cannot reference it for the colors.

Thanks, Bill

Bill, it's been awhile since I had one of these in hand.  So don't trust this as absolute.  Are the four wires red/black/yellow/white?

If so it was red to switched power, black to ground, and yellow and white to the yellow and white leads to the headlight socket (low and high beam).

Assume Orange w/ white strip is 12V and Black is ground.  Other to are Yellow and White.  Maybe it don't matter which is which...

Doh...of course!  Match color to color!

Orange w/white is a Harley "hot" color.  So that's your switched your power.  And the yellow and white do need to go to yellow and white respectively from the headlight plug.  Otherwise you're rocking of high-to-low on the headlight switch would be reversed.  It'll work either way.  The module doesn't care.  But if you want the action to be consistent with the intent keep them yellow to yellow and white to white.

orange plugs into center male plug on back of lighter, the black into the male plug on the lighter outside housing, the other two yellow and white go to hi-lo headlight.

Thanks!

All wired up and still works on the opener without programming!

Also wired the Zumo Power at the same time and installed the Chrome covers for the mirrors.  Added the Heated Gear pigtails.  Found out the bike did come with the siren...ooops.

OK, I was an IDIOT!!!  When I was installing the garage door opener transmitter I was so focused on the forrest, I forgot to look at the trees!

The SESG comes WITH the harness for EASILY attaching the OHGDO transmitter!  I noticed this when I installed the HID Low Beam.  I cut away a tiewrap on the headlight harness to make it easier to install.  There was a label on the harness that even said it was the one for the transmitter and an extra pigtail just for the connections to the transmitter.

I got it working my way but I spliced into the harness unnecessarily breaking connections.

DOH!

Garage door transmitters aren't any problem at all to install. I watched Henry install mine in just an hour or so.  ;D

The international models weren't supplied with the GDO and I installed ours and bought a 240-110v transformer to power up the receiver. The unit works fine.
The only issue I had was trying to get my dealer to order in the factory plugs to suit.

Very handy unit to have. Yes I know it's something that might give me problems in the future, but for now it's working well.

It's a shame that HD treats Australia as the backside of the universe. There's so much that is avail in the US and not here. The importer here also adds a huge percentage onto to parts as well. e.g. LH Fairing bracket SEEG $79 AU $37 US.. says a lot doesn't it? Then they whinge because so many of us order our parts from overseas... kind of a no brainer isn't it?

Cheers
