Input on theese engine mods 110" fxstsse2
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:49:03 AM »

Anybody have a similar setup on their bike, or experience with the bigbore pistons and the 257 cams. This is what´s installed on my bike when it was new in 2008. Since I just bought it and I´m having other work done on the chassie I haven´t had a chance to ride the bike yet. Any input on this modification will be apreciated.
Thanks.

the pistons you listed are for a 103" engine...they are most likely the high compression pistons for a 110" engine...i'm also running the 257 cams and they work good above 3000 rpm...but i have had extensive headwork as well as a larger throttle body...with the stock heads and throttle body i would use a smaller cam...since you already have the setup, ride it and see how you like it before planning any changes

with that cam I would  run piston 22502-07 for 10.5/1. Get a Cometic .030

Thanks for the input, must have been the wrong part #, it is the 110" high comp pistons I have in the engine.
I found out that the recall on the engine hadn´t been done, so I am having the shop do the recall, but then i was thinking,
Is this really necesseray? since the upgrades mentioned above was made on delivery in april 2008 or should I just have them do the recall and be sure that there never will be any warranty issues?

The upgrade heads have tighter fitting guides. The stem to valve is still too loose. They install a new improved head gasket but the root cause of leaking the cylinders are not fixed. ???
Whether to do it or not I don't know.
I admit bias but if it were mine I would have the guides changed by a head shop to a quality magnesiumbronze guide and properly fit to the valves, good time to do some minor headwork too and replace the troublesome ACR solenoids with the new ones.
Use a Cometic .030 and cool the motor down with a good tune and cam. Done deal.

Good info from Don, as usual, but we install manual realeases in those, so IF, the auto units take a crap, you just push the manuals in.
Have those re-worked heads on a 124", now, and untuned, they are showing 133/138 SAE.
Going to the tuner soon. :)
